The WhiteHouse launched a petition calling for open access to scientific articles published on the internet as a result of research funded with public funds.
The petition meets the problem of unsustainability of costs of subscriptions to scientific journals and the need to makethem freely available "to patients and caregivers, students and their teachers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and other taxpayers who paid for the research. Expanding access would speed the research process and increase the return on our investment in scientific research".
