Transforming the peer review system

Peer-review system has long been at the center of a debate within the research community and publishers.
At this regard, on the last issue of Research Information was published an interview to Janne-Youmas Seppanen, one of the founder and managing director of the project Peerage of Science.

How it works?

1. Authors submit manuscript to Peerage of Science and they decide the deadlines of all the steps of the process;

2. Once submitted, any qualified non affiliated peer can engage to review the manuscript;

3. The peer review process is available to all subscribing journals;

4. Authors may accept a direct publishing offer from subscribing journal or choose to export the peer reviews to any journal of their choice.

E-books on SciELO

SciELO, the Brasilian indexer and publisher of Open Access online journals, announces the new platform SciELO Books (http://books.scielo.org/en).
SciELO Books collects quality peer-reviewed and commercial e-books in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Public Health from selected university presses and other publishers in Brazil.

Currently there are over 300 ebooks available for download and this number is expected to grow by more than 500 titles per year. The ebooks are being made available in ePub and PDF formats with the option to download the whole ebook or just individual PDF chapters.

Although books are in portuguese, we want to give visibility to this vast and important project hoping that it can provide an example for all countries.
