New open access journal for AAAS

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) announced the launch in 2015 of its open access journal Science Advances.
The journal will collect high quality papers that are submitted to Science but not published in the "main" journal due to space lack. Therefore, work receiving favorable opinion by the reviewers, but are not selected for publication in Science, Science Signaling and Science Translational Medicine, will automatically be considered for publication in Science Advances.

According to statistics divulged by AAAS, about 14,000 papers are submitted for publication in Science every year, and only the 6% of them is published.
With the adoption of a new open access journal that will host some of this non published articles Science can keep its name associated to a great number of good  works andjoin the list of publishers who have embraced the business model of open access.

Recently Nature Publishing Group have made the same choice with the publicatins of the open access journal Scientific Report.
